No taxi's go anywhere near the carnival, all the roads are closed, he would never have been at the carnival and rung a cab.
He sounds like a shit son as well, as if my old man was 92 and just out of hospital I'd have been with him not out at a place where I'd shit my pants.

My pal DID eventually get an Addison Lee car home so the 5 mile exclusion zone is total bollocks and I'm relaying the story to Mashed exactly as I heard it yesterday and my pal is no bullshitter.
As I've now said several times I couldn't give a fuck about the NHC and only went once about 20 years ago and never made the same mistake again.
Some of you cunts love to pick apart a story while contributing very little else yourselves. Well done- you are one of the reasons this site is going to shit.

Listen I hate "relativising" and whataboutery etc but pre arranged scraps and bottle throwing between groups of blokes that end up harming innocent bystanders/women/babies/pregnant war veterans etc is something that's blighted football for decades. There were literally calls to ban football when it reached its peak in the 80s.
Just something to bear in mind.
Are there groups of lads who use carnival as an excuse to kick off? Undoubtedly. Is it getting worse? I dunno. Will banning it solve the problem? Absolutely not.

Just testing the hypothesis that the stabbings would have happened anyway and that carnival just moved the location and was not a net addition.
There is a simple reason why arrests were up.
More money was spent on stewarding so the OB didn't have to do stewarding and could focus on policing.

Solution is to charge the carnival organisers, who will then pass on that cost to the participants, who will then scream like fuck that it's so unfair and that the whole of the UK should cover the cost of a minority pagan activity.
And, as there's probably votes in it at some stage, they will get all they ask for and fuck all being in this together.

I've just been and met up with a good pal of mine, a proper West London boy who has only ever missed one carnival and without prompting (in truth I'd kind of forgotten about this thread) he said ' I think I am done with carnival after this year'.
I asked him why and he told me that he was really enjoying himself with some pals at Mau Mau in Portabello Rd watching the carnival and when it started to get dark he called a cab to go home but they'd been stopped on the advice of the police (I didn't ask the logic behind that).
He started walking home to Maida Vale down some side streets and suddenly felt the atmosphere change. He noticed one side of the road was mobbed up with blacks and the other side Asians. The carnival was still going on in the middle of the road, effectively separating the two sides.
Suddenly both sides started throwing bottles at each other and stones, some hitting girls in full carnival outfits, blood everywhere, women crying and it turned into a full scale riot. He said the bottles must have been arranged beforehand as they are banned so if you want a drink it's served in a plastic pint cup.
Him and a load of other bystanders had to escape through a council estate. He said that in all the years he's been going he'd never seen anything like it.
As I say, I've no particular axe to grind about the NHC but he says it does seem to get a little bit more bad natured once it gets dark every year and this episode put him right off going ever again.
Weird that we had that unprompted conversation after going through this thread.

That's actually a fucking good point bruu, I'd forgot gas had been made illegal. Must be the most pointless law passed in the last decade that.
What was it the DM called it? "Hippy crack" ffs.
I reckon a lot of people nicked for it genuinely wouldn't have known it was illegal now and having also been on the beer and puff would have kicked off.

The only reason there were so many arrests this year is becuse in may the government, for some reason, decided to make possesion of the harmless gas nitrous oxide illegal. Thousand of people take nitrous to carnival and it makes a very distinctive noise when it's being dispensed so its easy for old bull to find people with it.
It's a simple as that. I'd imagine a lot of the 'assaults' on police resulted from arrests relating to nos possesion.
Funnily enough one of the big catalysts for the Brixton riots was the stop and search policy of the met. Most blacks used ganja, old bill stopped them searching for ganja, this caused aggro. History repeating itself..
